UPay: from 10 to 3,000 organic visits a month in five months

UPay sells virtual and physical cards for people and businesses worldwide. Its site was a Vue app rendered in the browser, so Google saw almost nothing: ten clicks a month and a rank of 99 for its own name. Five months later it ranked first, for more than 1,000 terms.

The brief

UPay wanted more users from search and had a site that search could not read. The pages were rendered client-side by Vue, which meant Googlebot received an empty shell where a visitor saw a page. The site had three ranking keywords, a domain rating of 1, and its own brand name on page ten.

The brief was to make the site visible to search without rebuilding it, then to rank for the terms people use for the product (virtual card, crypto card, UPay card), and to turn that into users. The team wanted a monthly view of what was working.

How the project ran

When What happened
Month 1
Audit and rendering fix The audit found the client-side rendering problem. Pages were made readable to search engines, and missing metadata and schema were added.
Month 2
Keyword research and on-page work Terms like “UPay card”, “virtual card” and “crypto card” were mapped to pages and written into content, metadata and blog posts.
Month 2 to 3
Performance and fixes Site speed, mobile compatibility, broken links and navigation were fixed; the health score rose to 95.
Month 2 to 5
Content Articles, landing pages and blog posts on the product’s services and benefits, published on a calendar.
Every month
Monitoring and reporting Search Console checked for issues and rankings; a monthly analytics report drove the next month’s changes.

What we built

Two decisions that mattered

Fix rendering rather than rebuild

Moving the site to server-side rendering would have been a large engineering project. Making the existing pages readable to search engines got the same result in weeks.

Target the words people use, not the product names

People searching for what UPay sells type “virtual card” and “crypto card”. Pages were written for those terms first, and the brand rankings followed.

What is next

The next stage we would recommend is landing pages for the countries where the card is most used, and a second language for the largest of them.
